Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) invites inquiries, applications, and nominations for the newly formed position of Director of Campus Dining. The Director is responsible overseeing a revamped house dining system designed to enhance the residential dining experience. In addition to the services they provide to the MIT residences, they also offer meal services and catering to the general student and staff population.

About the Position
The Director of Campus Dining will serve at a pivotal time in the Institutes 150 year history providing executive leadership in the strategic development, planning, implementation and on going management of all aspects of food service hospitality operations serving the MIT campus community.

The Director of Campus Dining will oversee all of the areas of MIT dining operations including retail, residential, catering conference/business center services, vending food trucks, pubs and any other specialty services providing food to the campus. Currently this represents 5 house dining programs and over 20 retail operations representing 32 million in annual revenues. The Director develops and articulates a vision/mission statement for Campus Dining to support the vision for MIT’s high profile campus dining program. As primary university liaison for contracted food services vendors, monitor and evaluate the contractor’s compliance with established expectations. Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships is essential, with continuous improvement in all aspects of service delivery, operations, product quality and customer satisfaction to achieve a best in class dining experience for MIT’s students.
Additionally the Director will:
Provide a vision and leadership for a campus wide dining strategic plan that includes all facets of the dining program, including facility renovations and replacement.

- Lead MIT efforts to ensure that sustainable practices are instilled in all campus dining operations;
- Actively engage and be responsive to student concerns regarding dining;
- Work with finance division in the development of annual budgets, cash reserve management and monthly income projections;
- Manage all personnel;
- Oversee residential dining committee;
- Partner with Division of Student Life assessment staff;
- Provide leadership with the development of agreements with contractor partners including the RFP process;
- Work with MIT governmental relations department in representing Campus Dining in all matters involving the City of Cambridge licensing, health, safety and sanitation.
The successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree, master preferred in Higher Education, contract food service management, business administration, hotel and restaurant management or related field. Seven to ten years of experience at a mid to senior level is required. Experience running a large comprehensive multi-unit dinging program, including contract management for food operations is required. The successful candidate may also possess a demonstrated understanding of special needs of customers, including but not limited to nutrition programs, accommodations for allergies, and working knowledge of ADA issues impacting food service programs
The successful candidate will also possess:
- A vision of dining services from a macro point of view .e.g., understanding of what the next five years will bring to university dining;
- Skills to effectively over see a very diverse population;
- Excellent fiscal management skills;
- A customer service base approach to working with the Institute community responsibly;
- Skills and diplomacy to work with the Institute’s hierarchy;
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing demand.
