Labouré College, an independent, Catholic, four-year institution located in Milton, MA, invites inquiries, applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Engagement. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary and innovative leader to join the President’s executive team as they are engaged in furthering the College’s trajectory to excellence in responding to changing and increased demand for highly educated health care professionals.
Reporting to the President of the College, the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Engagement (VPEMSE) contributes vision, leadership and direction to provide an optimum student experience from inquiry to graduation. Areas reporting to the VPEMSE include: Admissions and Financial Aid; One-Stop Student Services; Registrar; and Student Engagement/Title IX. The Vice President oversees a total staff of 15 including 5 direct reports and manages a total budget of approximately $1.5 million including financial aid dollars. Personnel funding for all College positions is managed centrally.
Primary responsibilities of the VPEMSE include development of recruitment and marketing plans along with implementation and assessment of goals, and collaboration with the Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs, Institutional Advancement, and Administration and Finance to track enrollment trends, new program development and enrollment strategies for the College. Other responsibilities include: use of best practices in admissions, financial aid, recruitment and marketing; work closely with Chief Financial Officer on student accounts, scholarships and discounts; and create a culture that provides a student-centric delivery of the services provided by One-Stop Student Services Center and the Center for Student Success and Teaching Excellence.
About the College
Founded in 1892 by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul as the Carney Hospital Training School for Nurses, Labouré College grew from a diploma program in nursing to an associate-degree granting institution with majors in nursing and allied health. In 2009, the College launched its first baccalaureate program—an RN to BSN.
In 2012, Labouré purchased and renovated its new home in Milton, MA—in a well-maintained, secure, and easily accessible neighborhood on the outskirts of Boston. The College opened its doors to students at the new location in the fall semester of 2013. These new facilities are used to hold classes and lab sessions, to provide academic and administrative services, and for parking. Clinical experiences are held in healthcare facilities throughout the greater metropolitan Boston area and in other areas of the United States where online students live and have established local clinical opportunities.
Since 2013, under the visionary, charismatic and inclusive leadership of President Maureen Smith, Labouré College has succeeded in establishing the infrastructure and strategic planning initiatives necessary for the continued success of an independent institution. The members of the college community have fully endorsed and are committed to supporting and advancing the goals of the current strategic plan, including embracing the changes in practice, policy and program that are needed to align campus resources with its vision and future goals. Changes under consideration for implementation during the next year include development of new programs that reflect changing trends in the delivery of services necessary to support the health sector; further development of a writing intensive curriculum across all programs; and revision of the General Education curriculum. Consistent with its mission and inherent in the Catholic identity of the College is a commitment on the part of the entire campus community to the universal themes of human dignity, social justice and compassion. Acting on these principles, Labouré College seeks to give opportunities to a diverse population of students to continue their education as mature adults and responsible world citizens.
The College enrolled 808 students for the fall 2015 semester, and has enjoyed an increase in enrollment of approximately 19% since 2010. Ninety-three percent of the students enrolled in 2015 attended part-time and 88% of students received some form of financial assistance. Fifty percent of students live in the greater Boston area and another 45% live outside Boston within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Approximately 40% percent of Labouré’ s students self-identify as members of racial or ethnic minority groups, which is representative of the diversity found in the metropolitan Boston area and beyond. The student body is predominantly female (approximately 91%), and the average age of students is 31. Many students are raising families and working while attending Labouré and are attracted to the flexible class scheduling including the new online options available for many programs.
The successful candidate for the position will bring these experiences, skills, and knowledge:
- Laboure student with child. resized jpg* A minimum of 7 years of successful higher education management with significant experience in planning, change management, problem solving, including the ability to organize both processes and people;
- The ability to anticipate trends in health care education and student enrollment and to assess their impact on an institution;
- Success in tracking the effect of changes on an organization’s climate, its students, faculty and staff, and success in attaining institutional goals;
- Evidence of success as a spokesperson for student and staff concerns; * Demonstrated experience with collegial decision making;
- Strong supervisory skills including development of morale and a sense of team, giving positive encouragement and constructive feedback leading to improved performance, and ensuring that all staff members understand institutional goals and their contributions to success in reaching those goals.
Additional qualifications include knowledge of One-Stop programs and their purposes, proven success with enrollment, recruitment and retention strategies including the implementation of related goals and objectives, and experience working with and knowledge of higher education data management systems such as Jenzabar, Banner/Datatel or Peoplesoft. A Master’s degree is required; terminal degree is preferred.
